The arts are a powerful means by which to raise awareness and advocate for social justice, human rights and eco-justice. That's why the Edmund Rice Centre has developed the Justice Through the Arts program. Justice Through the Arts works to link schools and community groups with human rights campaigners and people in the arts community (including authors, musicians, film makers, photographers and artists) to discuss how we can use the arts to build capacity for social change.
As part of this program we have run Justice Literary Festivals in 2008, 2009 and 2018 and a Justice Literary Event in 2016.

Indigenous Literacy Foundation's The Great Book Swap
This Indigenous Literacy Day, Wednesday 5 September, hold a Great Book Swap and help raise funds for literacy in remote Indigenous communities.
Sign up for the Great Book Swap by 30 April and your school goes in the draw to win a school visit from ILF ambassador such as award winning actress, Justine Clarke or NITV presenter Natalie Ahmat.
What is a Great Book Swap? It is a literacy fundraiser, where students bring in a book and make a gold coin donation to swap it with another student.
Why hold a Great Book Swap? It will promote social justice within your school and raise funds to buy books for children in remote Indigenous communities. It is an opportunity for students learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture as well as learn valuable leadership skills and experience a sense of agency in contributing to something bigger. It’s also a lot of fun reminds your own students why they love books and reading.
